This is a major misunderstanding in the body of Christ. here is the deal: Old Testament/Old Cov= obligation, blessing and cursing, man is made right by what he does,etc,etc (613 laws, commands, and decrees-no one can keep the Law-that is why the priests made continual sacrifices to offer for the sins of the people. New Cov= opportunity. Everything a Christian needs to know about giving is found in S Cor chapters 8 & 9 as otto has pointed out. Heb 8- The first Cov has been replaced in full by the second covenant. Now the first one is “null and void, no longer in effect”. That is why Jesus said no longer to curse. Also Jesus died to redeem us from the curse of the Law. we are no longer under the curse. We are now made right by faith through the grace of God, plus nothing on our part except to believe. however that faith, the infilling of the Holy Spirit, and God giving us a new heart will result in changes to our actions. so the righteous works follow in time based on how much we allow God to change the way we think, our heart, and our response to His working in us. God works in us to will to do according to His will.
To the mockers, haters, skeptics, I get it. I was once like you. But I didn’t understand that there is a difference between the intellectual and the spiritual-many can be intellectually-sharp, and yet spiritually as dull as a stump-as I was. I have personally witness Jesus heal over a hundred people through His Holy Spirit. I have watched Him intervene in people’s lives that could only be called a miracle. Jesus is alive-right now-and He is coming back very soon. Believe, don’t believe-that is your choice. if you want to believe that all this came into being by chance, that there was a Big Bang that exploded from-wait for it-NOTHING- no gas, no matter, no spark for the explosion-wow-then you truly are a person of faith! Jesus who healed so many, is healing today, who opened the door for all of us-for us to then reject Him is our right, but it is also the greatest sin a person can commit-rejecting the love and grace of the very one who made him-good luck with that-all the best

I pay tithes because I am a follower of Jesus and Jesus believed in paying tithes.

SCRIPTURAL PROOFS JESUS PAID TITHES

Luke 11:42

42 “Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone.

“WITHOUT LEAVING THE FORMER UNDONE”

Jesus commended others who practiced giving tithes regularly in the Temple.

In Luke 4:16 we read that Jesus made a CUSTOM out of
going to the synagogue on the Sabbath. From Mark 12:41-42 we can see that the custom of giving into the Treasury was a public display of giving. If Jesus condoned others tithing wouldn’t it make sense that He practiced what He taught that others should do? And if Jesus was a habitual attender of the
Synagogue, wouldn’t it be likely that He practiced the customs of the Temple and Synagogues He attended, which would include the practice of Tithing? Since giving was done publicly, all the Jews knew that Jesus kept the Laws without flaw, therefore could not accuse Him of robbing God by not paying tithes.

Matt 22:21
21 They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
In Malachi 3:8-9 we see that not paying tithes was considered ROBBING GOD. Any man who did not PAY TITHES and give offerings was considered a thief in God’s eyes, and this is proven by God’s Own words. If Jesus told others to give to Caesar the finances that belong to Caesar (speaking about taxes), then He surely meant that in giving to God “the things that are God’s” one should not hold back the appropriate financial gift that God requires, which would be the giving of TITHES & offerings.

Gal 4:4
4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, (NKJ)

Although tithing was instituted BEFORE the Law through Abraham, it was to be observed UNDER the Law. To say that Jesus did NOT pay tithes would be to accuse Him of being a LAW BREAKER or a breaker of the commandments of God.
This of course would disqualify Him of being the sinless sacrifice that the Scripture teaches.

John 8:39

39 They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham. (NKJ) Hebrews 7:4 states that Abraham gave a tenth or paid tithes, and Jesus in John 8:39 says that those who do the WORKS of Abraham are the true Children of Abraham.

Gal 3:13-14
13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. (NKJ)

Being out from under the curse of the Law does not mean that we are to no longer do the works of Abraham in order to be considered his Children. Christ redeemed us from the Curse of trying to observe the commandments of God through the strength of the flesh, but now we obey the requirements of God through the Spirit, observing those things which the Old Testament was a shadow of NOW IN THE LIGHT of the fullness of what all the Old Testament
ordinances and Laws meant. Some people seem to think that because we are saved by Grace we don’t have to obey the Laws of God or that the Old Testament no longer applies to our walk in Christ. Not only must Christians observe the Laws like not murdering, but you must have sincere love for your enemies in your heart, not to mention that the Tithe was instituted before the Law of Moses was in effect. We don’t observe the Tithe to be saved, we observe the Tithe as an act of spiritual worship and thanksgiving for our victories over the enemy as Christ is constantly leading us in Triumph.

Gal 3:29

29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. (NKJ)

Jesus not only must have paid tithes as a carpenter before He became a minister, but also, as a minister, and priest, Jesus had the authority to receive tithes also. Tithing is a reward for service in the tabernacle of God, and the High Priest, which we know to be Jesus, deserves ten percent of the other ministers’ tithes which they in turn receive from the people. So why wouldn’t he deserve ten percent now?

Romans 7:

12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. 14 For we know that the law is spiritual …
With Jesus in us, though the law cannot perfect us, we can keep the perfect law perfectly, because the perfect Law-Giver covers our short-comings, but let us not flagrantly and purposely break the law by disdaining tithing–and remember that tithing was such a spiritual thing that God installed it before the law was ever given.

In summary
Jesus said: “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.” [Mat 5:17]

Tithes to God:

Did Jesus render unto God that which is God’s?

Did Jesus break the commandment thou shalt not steal?

Did He, as a leader, mentor, teacher, role model, and father figure teach his disciples to rob God, even though Abraham taught his grandson, Jacob, to tithe 400 years before the Law? Evidently Jacob did not heed Abraham in the area of tithing for the first forty years of Jacob’s life, but then Jacob, with new determination inspired by the Spirit remembered the ten percent.

God put the desire in Jacob’s heart to begin to tithe as a manner of thanksgiving for guidance and protection and prosperity. [Gen 28:22]

Shouldn’t we make a new resolve like Jacob to begin tithing if we are not already doing so? Shouldn’t we be demonstratively thankful for God’s guidance and protection and prosperity toward us? What better way than showing Who our financial Source and Security really is! Can a man rob God in 2015? Does God give you the license to break the ten commandments, or does the devil give you the licentiousness to do it?

“And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy GOVERNOR; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the Lord of hosts.” [Mal 1:8]

Do you give God the second best? The surplus? How much taxes did you pay this year? How much tithes and offerings did you give to God this year? Why give the best to the government, and your leftovers, blind, lame, and sick to the Lord? Is it not evil? The government asks for much more than 10%. Mercifully, God only asks for one penny out of a dime. Do you fear God the most, or do you fear man the most? Choose you this day whom you will serve.

You are misaken and need tor be born again to get the right understanding of God’s word. You give on based of what you have.

It was not rendered void. Jesus said he id not come to take away from the old testament but to fulfill. He also said it is for our learning. You need to be born again.
