A Georgia special education teacher has been fired after she allegedly put an autistic student in a trash can.
Mary Katherine Pursley told police:
“The student was acting like Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street so I thought if he’s gonna be Grouchy, then he belongs in a garbage can.”
Pursley allegedly took photos of the child in the garbage can, including selfies.
Pursley claimed she was only trying to calm him down and she wouldn’t have let him stay in the garbage can “any longer than an hour.”
The school board yesterday voted to end Pursley’s contract with the school.
Pursley has also been charged with felony child cruelty.
